It has come to this… it takes a 34 page book to figure out eating Wisconsin fish!
I picked up a 34 page pamphlet titled “Choose Wisely – 2011, A Health Guide to Eating Fish in Wisconsin” at my regional DNR office. We have wonderful fishing opportunities in Wisconsin, but unfortunately a successful fishing trip along with fish preparation is the easy part while deciding whether to actually consume the fish is the hard part. Our disregard for protecting natural resources such as lakes and rivers means we take a health risk when deciding to enjoy the simple pleasure of fishing.
Preventing problems is always less expensive than fixing them. I recently heard DNR Secretary, Cathy Stepp, explaining that she would be working to reduce regulation and rules. Her rational? She felt bad for a business person in Northern Wisconsin having to deal with DNR water quality standards. After all, his only problem was the stream near the business was too small to dilute his pollution.
To those wanting deregulation and less monitoring of industries likely to pollute, I say, “Let them eat fish!”
I especially want Scott Walker to eat his Wisconsin fish!
What do you mean I can’t eat my fish???????
